Kentucky has never before had an independent candidate for U.S. Senate on its ballots, in the 100 years that the state and the nation have been electing U.S. Senators by popular vote. But Ed Marksberry announced on September 22 that he will attempt to run as an independent for U.S. Senate next year. See this story. Marksberry has been active in the Democratic Party and is an environmentalist.

  1. Grimes is the current Secretary of State, er Commonwealth. If she had or would propose legislation or even talk about a better electoral system or commit to highlighting in her future years in public service the need for a system that does not waste votes such that a voter feels they must vote strategically rather than their preference, if she’s doing that she could take a conservative line and ask for Marksberrys votes. But as it is, the system she’s got no problem with is one where she should expect more/better competition.

It’d be better to have McConnel win than to have KY Dems continue to ignore a crappy electoral system. I mean if there’s only two viable parties, one of ’em has to step up and do the work in the public interest or suffer.

The Republicans already have that side that unabashedly neglects the public interest, it’s taken.

  2. One more Divide and Conquer machination or what — to get one more plurality winner extremist in 2015 ???

Abolish the corrupt minority rule USA Senate.
