The Alabama bill that improves ballot access for newly-qualifying parties and non-presidential independent candidates has cleared the Senate Rules Committee and is on the calendar for the Senate floor for Tuesday, April 7. Thanks to Joshua Cassity for this news.
The Republican Senate Majority Leader proposed a special order calendar after a 4 hours debate on prison reform. The special calendar overrode the previous session calender and including pressing issues the majority wanted to be heard. As you probably can tell SB221 (ballot access) was omitted from this session for more pressing issues like classification or a railroad dog and naming the official state crustacean.
The ballot access bill was carries over to the April 7 calendar and may be heard next week.
