C-SPAN Invites All 17 Republican Presidential Candidates to an August 3 Forum

C-SPAN, in partnership with some newspapers, will host a Republican presidential candidate forum on August 3 in New Hampshire. This is three days before the Fox News debate set for August 6.

Not all Republican presidential candidates have accepted the C-SPAN invitation. The event is not sanctioned by the Republican National Committee.

  1. How about get 60 candidates.

One minute opening and closing speech by each ???

  2. If they accept, will they be banned from future RNC authorized debates?

Also, is Mark Everson one of the 17 invited?

  3. Once again, C-SPAN steps up to do the civically correct thing.

It seems to me C-SPAN ought to be more popular. With how pathetic cable television has become (re: politics), there ought to be a great appetite in the public for more serious and intellectual content.

I, for instance, have watched every C-SPAN video featuring Christopher Hitchens and am a huge fan of the hour-long chat shows where they review the news of the day in-depth with guests of different politics. Such discussions, when done well with the right guests, are splendidly entertaining and edifying.

  4. The 17 are 9 Governors or ex-Governors (Bush, Walker, Huckabee, Perry, Christie, Jindal, Kasich, Pataki, Gilmore). And they are 5 Senators or ex-Senators: Cruz, Rubio, Paul, Santorum, and Graham. And they are 3 who have never been elected: Trump, Carson, and Fiorina.

  5. I just noticed, from the 17, there is only one from the thirteen western states, Carly Fiorina, and even she now lives in Virginia.

The west has not had its share of major party nominees. The Democratic Party has never nominated anyone for either president or vice-president from any western state.

  6. But surely, registered Republicans should have the ability to vote for the candidate of their choice, regardless of ridiculously restrictive local election laws. It’s very disappointing watching people on TV act like its only Newt Gingrich or Rick Perry who are being affected,” said Winger, who runs Ballot Access News.
