Party for Socialism and Liberation Announces 2016 Presidential Ticket

The Party for Socialism and Liberation has announced its presidential slate for 2016. Gloria La Riva of San Francisco is the presidential nominee, and Eugene Puryear of Washington, D.C., is running for vice-president.

La Riva was the party’s stand-in presidential candidate in 2012. The party’s actual presidential candidate, Peta Lindsay, was not age 35 so in some states the party substituted La Riva.

In 2008 the party also ran La Riva for President and Puryear for Vice President. The party did not exist prior to 2008. However, many of the people in the party were formerly members of the Workers World Party. La Riva was the Workers World Party vice-presidential nominee in 2000, 1996, 1988, and 1984, and the Workers World presidential nominee in 1992. Thanks to IndependentPoliticalReport for the news about the 2016 slate.

  1. PSL is even more socialist than the New Age Donkey Party ???

How much money from Elephants to get even more socialist parties on the 2016 ballots ??? — to DIVIDE and CONQUER.

  2. This party did pretty well with ballot access in 2012. It’ll be fun to see how they make out this time around.

  3. In 2012 the party’s ticket was on in 13 states, including one state (Vermont) in which Jill Stein did not get on the ballot. Not too surprisingly, the PSL slate did better in Vermont than any other state, .23%. The PSL’s 2nd best state was Arkansas, .16%. In all other states it got under .1%.

  4. It seems to me that they are the best organized among the socialist parties, they usually get the most ballot access out of all the socialists and commies.

  5. “and the Workers World presidential nominee in 1992”

Technically true, and most sources (including me) count her as the WWP presidential nominee, but truthfully the party did not intend to run a presidential candidate that year, but needed to put a candidate on the ballot in I believe New Mexico to try to retain ballot access, so they put La Riva down as their presidential nominee.
