New Party in Vermont Says it Will Qualify for 2016 Ballot — 3 Comments

  1. Not to be confused with the Mountain Party of WV, a state affiliate of the Green Party, nor is it an affiliate of the Green Party in VT, which is Vermont Green Party.

  2. Wasn’t there a party by that name that got on the ballot in 1968? I think it was formed by Eugene McCarthy’s state campaign in case he decided to run that November.

  3. “The New Party” was on the Vermont ballot in 1968 for president. Back then the Vermont ballot printed the names of presidential elector candidates and let voters vote individually for each one. The ballot showed a blank for president and vice-president. The electors said publicly they would vote for McCarthy if they were elected to the electoral college. But because McCarthy didn’t support what they were doing, McCarthy’s name was not on the ballot. With a blank for president and vice-president, the 3 elector candidates of The New Party got a very small vote.
