California Secretary of State Won’t Reveal Internal Documents Relating to Why Jill Stein was Omitted from the Peace & Freedom Presidential Primary Ballot

As noted earlier, the Peace & Freedom Party of California asked the California Secretary of State to list Jill Stein on its presidential primary ballot, but the Secretary of State refused. A request was made for any writing that might have explained the Secretary of State’s decision. But that office has replied that such writings will not be made public, because they are “notes, drafts or memoranda that are not retained in the ordinary course of business and are exempt under the deliberative process privilege.”

Before 2012, the California Secretary of State had always printed the names of presidential candidates on the Peace & Freedom Party ballot, if the party had suggested those names. That precedent was broken in 2012, when the former Secretary of State refused to list Peta Lindsay on the grounds that she was under age 35.

  1. Secretary of State Alex Padilla promised a transparent and democratic administration. However, he has removed the name of a qualified candidate who asked in writing to be included on the Peace and Freedom Party primary ballot and when asked why he thinks that he has authority to remove a qualified candidate from the ballot he refuses to say.

  2. Candidate Alex Padilla at the only candidate forum for the SOS election said that the reason to vote for him was so that he could work with Diane Feinstein to impose a $15 minimum wage.

Translation: I am an ambitious term-limited legislature, who jumped to a statewide office until something else opens up (eg Garamendi and Bowen).

  3. The American Independent Party asked to place several person on the
ballot to run for POTUS. Alex Padilla said no. It should be noted

    he filled one day late.

I will not vote for a candidate, only the state propositions.

  5. John Kohler, Jill Stein will be listed as a Green Party candidate. You can vote for her to get the Green Party nomination.
