U.S. District Court Issues Opinion, Explaining Why Illinois Full-Slate Law is Unconstitutional

On February 24, U.S. District Court Judge Andrea Wood issued this twelve-page opinion, explaining why the Illinois full-slate law is unconstitutional. The case is Libertarian Party of Illinois v Illinois State Board of Elections, n.d., 1:12cv-2511.

While this ruling has made the full slate requirement unconstitutional, it seems that this judge has no problem with the current signature requirements despite the 25,000 signature requirement being on the high side nationally. Well, one step at a time at least, and as an Illinois Green I say thank you to the Illinois Libertarian Party. Here’s hoping that Jill and Gary’s lawsuit against the CPD goes well too.

  2. The lawsuit didn’t challenge the number of signatures, so it would not have been proper for the judge to say anything about that issue.
