Although 19 states haven’t yet held any Republican presidential primaries or caucuses this year, all southern states have now voted.

  1. Maryland was considered a Southern state from the beginning of our nation. During the Civil War, it provided soldiers to both the Confederacy and the Union. Probably only during the last 75 years has it become considered a “Mid-Atlantic” state.
