Green Party Presidential Nominee Likely to be on Arizona Ballot without need for a Lawsuit

On June 17, just hours before the Arizona Green Party was set to file a lawsuit to get its presidential nominee on the November 2016 Arizona ballot, the Secretary of State asked for talks with the party’s attorney. It is likely the state will allow the presidential nominee of the Green Party to be on the ballot, even though the party didn’t submit the names of its presidential elector candidates by June 1.

The same problem happened in 1996 to the Arizona Libertarian Party, and in August 1996 the Libertarian Party won a lawsuit that put its presidential nominee, Harry Browne, on the November ballot. There really is no need for parties in Arizona to submit their presidential elector candidates so early in the year. Independent presidential candidates in Arizona don’t need to file the names of their presdential elector candidates until September.

  1. Good for them. I agree, the judge probably wanted not to get caught in the mire of an early deadline. I think that I would be interested in seeing Jill Stein debate Hillary Clinton on national tv.

  2. Probably because Arizona SoS Michelle Reagan is a Republican, and Hillary Clinton has a good chance of carrying the state for the Democrats. She’s hoping Stein will play spoiler, but Stein is a very poor candidate, so that’s unlikely.

  3. The media publish that the Green Party will not be on the ballot. Shouldn’t the Arizona Green Party Attorney demand the media to print retractions. Otherwise, people will continue to think they have no other choice but the D’s or R’s or Libertarians.

  4. So are they going to be on the Arizona ballot or not? I won’t begin contributing financially until I know. Am concerned that this happened!

  5. The Arizona government attorneys told the Green Party attorney that they want to settle this. But they have been playing phone tag.
