On June 29, Better for America, the group of conservatives who hope to recruit an independent presidential candidate and place him or her on ballots, asked to file an amicus brief in Level the Playing Field v Federal Election Commission, one of the two lawsuits on general election presidential debates. Here is a statement from Better for America about its desire to file the brief.
Also on June 29, Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is handling the case, denied permission for Sam Husseini to file an amicus brief. Husseini is a journalist and the founder of VotePact.org. The FEC had asked the judge to deny permission for Husseini to file. It will be interesting to see if the FEC also asks that Better for America be blocked. Obviously a loser in the case will appeal sooner or later to SCOTUS — i.e. with a zillion more amicus briefs.
Where is that 24/7 SUPREME election law court ???
How many months now have they been searching for the mystery candidate with no takers ?
How many times are they going to go through this before they figure out it’s too late for to find an independent.

I’m skeptical of Better For America. This does not look like real grassroots activism but rather a pet project of a some rich, anti-Trump bitter Republican. “The New York Times reported that Better for America is funded by John Kingston, a conservative donor who has worked with other conservatives in the dwindling “Stop Trump” camp, including William Kristol and Mitt Romney.” (What Is “Better For America”? – Bustle). Look at their “About Us” page – it’s so vague.
Also, I sent a request for a press packet and asked who’s behind the group and even though I can see they read the Facebook message I got no replies once I started asking those kinds of questions. Also, shouldn’t they put up a map of ballot access deadlines for all 50 states for independents if they want your money for financial support? We need to move past the failed 2 party system but on the surface I doubt Better For America is the right way to get there.
I think Evan Mcmullin is an impressive young man bUT won’t vote for him until I find out who makes up the BFA group.
