  1. I vote for the Greens every year. I give them money from time to time. I’m sure this guy is a wonderful person. But I wish the party would start nominating candidates that people actually want to vote for.

  2. A press release. Independent Political Report links to the press release.

  3. No, I think it’s probably good news for Clinton as well.

Had Stein been able to land a Sanders campaign leader like Dr. Cornel West or Fmr. State Senator Nina Turner, the media would have been more open to taking the Green ticket seriously.

Mr. Baraka doesn’t seem like the kind of big name that’ll help her.

If they begin to drop Stein’s name from polling, that will help Gary Johnson’s chances of scooping all of the “none of the above” voters and maybe give him a small shot at making at least one of the debates.

  4. Enquiring minds would like to know – what is Baraka’s religion and cultural background?

One online bio of him has this quote – “Ajamu Baraka is a veteran grassroots organizer whose roots are in the Black Liberation Movement”. Hmmm.

He is against the TPP as is Stein, so Johnson/Weld is the only ticket in favor of the TPP (at least as of today – Hillary will likely change her position once again if she’s elected). If Johnson/Weld gets any traction whatsoever, then Trump will crucify them over their open borders and pro-TPP positions which generally only the big corporations are in favor of (plus big corps’ prime lackey – Paul Ryan).

  5. I heard the Greens filed huge petition numbers in like four states yesterday, I’m assuming Richard is waiting for a complete list of who all filed in Kansas, Nebraska, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

  6. The Green Party, the Constitution Party, and independent candidate Roque “Rocky” de la Fuente all filed petition signatures in Pennsylvania yesterday. The Libertarian Party also filed petition signatures in Pennsylvania, but the LP may have turned them in a few days prior to the deadline.

All of them are likely to qualify for the ballot.

  7. I believe he’s waiting for the states to agree that the petitions are sufficient/valid. But there is a report here on the Green filings yesterday:

    http://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2016/08/01/green-party-gains-ballot-access-six-more-states-signature-counts-more-double

The release sounds pretty confident. Sounds to me like there’s a good chance our estimable host will be a prophet for saying Stein will be on in all but three states. (She’s filed for official write-in status in Indiana and North Carolina; is Oklahoma the third, Richard?)

  8. Unless something has changed in Oklahoma, write in votes are not counted in that state.

  9. You are right, Andy. Oklahoma is one of four states that has never had write-ins for any office. Rocky De La Fuente has a ballot access case against Oklahoma. If he won, it is conceivable the Green Party could also benefit. De La Fuente has hired experienced ballot access attorney Jim Linger to do the Oklahoma case. Jim Linger has won constitutional ballot access cases in six states, and Linger lives in Oklahoma.
