Sal Albanese, Reform Party Nominee for New York City Mayor, Sues to be Admitted to Debates

According to this story, Sal Albanese, a former New York city councilman and the Reform Party nominee for Mayor of New York city, has sued the New York City Campaign Finance Board over his exclusion from the mayoral debates. The Campaign Finance Board sponsors such debates. Albanese meets the spending criteria for inclusion, but not the polling criterion. However, as he points out, there have been no polls that mentioned him.

  1. That has always been a nice sneaky way to screw over candidates. I recall a story Buddy Roemer told about how he was also not invited to the debates with the main candidates in 2012 when he had been a former governor! Say what you will about popularity, but when you’re a former governor but still have issues getting into debates, like Pataki (placed with the lesser Republican candidates), Jindal, and Roemer, we have a serious issue. Which, of course, we all knew.

If a candidate is on the ballot, they should be on the poll, period.

  2. Tim… Which is why executive seats at the very least need instant run-off. Better would be Approval Voting, Range Voting, or Borda Voting.
