Only Four States Won’t Have a Third Party Candidate on the November 2018 Ballot for Statewide Office

It appears that in November 2018, there will be only four states with no third party candidates on the ballot for any statewide race: Alabama, California, Maine, and Washington. All states have statewide races up in November 2018 except for Kentucky and Louisiana.

  1. CA might have no statewide third party candidates, but it looks like two Greens made it to the general in Congressional districts 34 and 40.

  2. How about Virginia? There is a statewide race in Virginia this year (US Senate). The petitioning deadline for nonqualified party candidates is Tuesday next week, June 12. So far, I haven’t read confirmation that the Libertarian nominee for this office, Matt Waters, has made the ballot. The last I read was a call from the Chair of the VA LP for 1000 more signatures. I’m not aware of any other information that suggests that he has made it.

  3. How many 2018 DIVIDE AND CONQUER machinations — via the minor candidates ??? —

see the MINORITY popular votes for both Trump and Clinton in Nov 2016.

  4. I did word the post in terms of “likely”, not certainty. But the Virginia Libertarian Party is confident that its US Senate petition will succeed.
