Approval Voting Party Hopes to Become Ballot-Qualified in Colorado

The Approval Voting Party is not a ballot-qualified party in any state. But it is on the ballot for Colorado Secretary of State. If its nominee, Blake Huber, receives at least 5% of the vote, the party will become qualified in Colorado for four years.

The November 2018 ballot has four candidates for Secretary of State, the nominees of the Democratic, Republican, Constitution, and Approval Voting Parties.

  1. As I understand it, another way to gain their ballot status in Colorado is if at least 1000 voters register into the AVP.

Is it possible to parlay this ballot status for Secretary of State in Colorado into ballot status in Florida?

  2. Approval voting is not pure proportional representation (PPR).

We welcome, congratulate and appreciate the Approval Voting Party of CO and look forward to working with them under PPR.

It would be a good thing to parley their ballot status to another state.

The One Party has not sought ballot access to date of which I am aware.

  3. You’re right Scott, both on the 1000 members and on Florida ballot access. Who knows? Maybe the Approval Voting Party will run a presidential candidate again!

Frank Atwood was the presidential candidate for the Approval Voting Party in 2016. He would’ve won but they wouldn’t let them in at the debates…

  4. You will see a lot of males in the Approval Voting Party who will be seeking male candidates for the Approval Voting Party (AVP) because Approval Voting does not give us neither pure proportional representation (PPR) nor ranked choice voting (RCV) and so there is no incentive to vote for their opposite gender ahead of their own with consecutively ranked alternating genders thereafter.

Only us men using parliamentary procedures under PPR as a national team as does the United Coalition USA will men be able to unselfishly call for our opposite gender ahead of ourselves.

There will certainly be plenty of men asking for the first vote from other men but the United Coalition USA asks men to choose from the opposite gender first.

  5. As of March 31, 2019, the Approval Voting Party has 571 registered active voters and 14 inactive voters in Colorado, putting them more than halfway to the one thousand registered voters needed for automatic ballot status.

  6. Pure proportional representation (PPR) will never allow approval voting (AppV) nor single-winner election districts under ranked choice voting (RCV).

Only RCV in multiple winner districts is acceptable to bring PPR.

  7. The Approval Voting Party is a Qualified Political Organization growing in voter registrations. Upon achieving 1000 voters affiliated with the AVP, it will become a minor party in Colorado.

Minor party status will invite candidates who would otherwise need to petition for ballot access. Candidates may be nominated at the AVP convention in 2020.

  8. As of July 31, the Approval Voting Party had 838 registered active voters in Colorado, putting them more than four-fifths of the way towards qualifying for automatic ballot status as a recognized minor party. They have until April 1, 2020, to reach the required threshold of one thousand registered party members.
