Socialist Party Sets National Convention

The Socialist Party will hold its national convention in Newark, New Jersey, on October 18-19, 2019. The party will decide whether or not to run a presidential candidate. The last time it didn’t run anyone for president was 1984. There is some sentiment that the party should not run its own nominee, and instead try to assist Howie Hawkins, who is seeking the Green Party presidential nomination. Hawkins is also a member of the Socialist Party.

  1. Yeah, but Howie’s not a lead-pipe cinch and a number of Greens are attacking him for allegedly buying the Democrats’ “Russiagate” line, which is simply not true. So, I’d prefer them either do something on their own, or if electorally feasible depending on state laws, independently nominate Hawkins so he’s on ballots if Greens wind up diving into an empty pool in some way, shape or form. (I don’t know exactly where Dario or Ian stand on this issue, but … it’s possible the party might opt for none of the three, even. Who knows.)

  2. Who needs the SP with the New Age RED Donkey Communist Party ???

    — other than Elephants to divide and conquer the NARDCP ???

  3. DemoRep, don’t you have any other websites you can go comment on and play with? Stormfront or something?

  4. Me: As someone who has voted Green every presidential election this century, I know that even with AccommoGreens Stein and Cobb, there’s still a difference from Dems.

DR: I do comment elsewhere and on issues besides politics, and don’t generally, out of the blue, write as though I were a rabid possum.

  5. How much of the growing communist v fascist CRISIS is due to human OVER-population over/on/under Mother Earth ???

    ——-

Current USA/States tax rate – est. 40-42 pct – ye olde *tipping point* ???

[UP from about 10.0 PCT in 1929]

Now about 15 pct fictional *imputed* income in GDP

    — esp. fictional imputed rents in owner-occupied housing – homes, condos, etc.

    Green tax rate – 99.0 PCT ???
    SP tax rate – 99.5 PCT ???
    NARDCP tax rate – 100.0 PCT ???

  6. Jim, I’d guess a Green Party member who want to accommodate the Democratic Party (not run Greens in some districts as to not ‘hurt’ the Democratic candidates) and is wish-washy on the idea of being a truly independent political party. They’ll usually want to work more with ‘progressive’ Democrats, and some have even endorsed such Democrats over the Green in certain races. They will also tend to be more moderate, e.g. not as anti-capitalist as the left flank of the Green Party. Asher Platts of Maine and Brandy Baker have both written articles about this potential schism.

And me, while the SPUSA is multi-tendency, that does not mean at all they’re in line with the corporatism of the Democratic Party. To act as though there is no difference is, I’m sorry, just politically ignorant. Talk to some in the SPUSA. They’ll be glad to tell you the difference, though of course some of them do support a couple of more seemingly lefty Democrats.

  7. How many of the 20 CNN Donkeys are open/undercover socialists/communists ???

  8. None. Bernie Sanders is a social democrat, and there are debates among actual socialists (Trotskyists, Maoists, Marxist-Leninists, Stalinists, anarchists, and democratic socialists) on if social democrats even are socialists in the first place. Bernie aside, there’s not one person on the debate stage who is are “open/undercover socialists/communists”. Most of them are faux-progressives, many are just outright corporate centrist establishment hacks (Delaney, Moulton, Hickenlooper, a good fifth of the primary field), but unless you can actually show evidence of any of them being socialists or communists (which you can’t), then it’s wrong to say they are.

Mike Gravel, while not a socialist, would actually have been a leftist on stage, but he got screwed out of a debate spot, so we won’t get his great point of view.

Tl;dr: There are zero communists on stage, and maybe one socialist, though that’s highly disputable.

  9. More questions for inquiring minds —

How many of the 20 CNN Donkeys are open/undercover free market economy folks [those anti-communist *capitalists*] ???

Has JM4 done a brain scan on each of the 20 ???

Has JM4 written a zillion word definition of each type of A to Z communist, socialist, etc. in the JM4 politics dictionary – used by ALL other media folks ???

IE – which of the 20 may be / IS the 666 thing from Hell ???

  10. Lol. We have discussed this before, Demo. The fact that you remain willfully ignorant of the distinctions between different socialist and communist ideologies does not mean they don’t exist.

  11. JM$ – Perhaps enlighten the zillions who look at BAN and want to know those *distinctions between different socialist and communist ideologies* ???

    Some kill/enslave ??? —
    Others NOT kill/enslave ???

Some 100 pct CONTROL of everything ???
Some NOT 100 pct CONTROL of everything – mere 99 pct ???

How many wikis on leftist / STATIST CONTROL FREAK TYRANT stuff ???

    PR and AppV and TOTSOP

  12. Demo – this video offers a good explanation between the broad categories of communist, socialist, democratic socialist, and social democrat. https://youtu.be/vyl2DeKT-Vs

It doesn’t do the multitude of smaller factions – trotskyist, maoist, lenninist, degenerated workers state, and the like. But for the broad categories, it’s pretty good.

  13. Since most socialists are atheist, they debate how many factions can dance on the head of a pin.
