Alabama Postpones Run-Off Primaries from March 31 to July 14

On March 18, Alabama postponed its run-off primaries from March 31 to July 14. Here is the statement from the Secretary of State’s website, which has much verbiage about free and fair elections, but which does not extend the petitioning period, nor does it reduce the number of signatures needed for independent candidates and minor parties.

  1. Since this is a runoff primary election, I wouldn’t think there would be any new candidates qualifying for it anyway.

From what I can find, the Alabama petitioning period for minor parties and independent candidates (other than for president) expired on March 3 anyway. And the independent presidential candidate deadline isn’t until August.

  2. LOL! Not extending the petitioning time, or reducing the signature requirement, for minor party and independent candidates, really takes away from this guy’s credibility.
