Louisiana Green Party, a Qualified Party, is Late with Presidential Electors, so Howie Hawkins Not Likely to Appear on Ballot

The Louisiana Green Party, which is ballot-qualified, was late with its list of presidential elector candidates, so Howie Hawkins is likely not on the Louisiana ballot.

At least eight times in history, the Democratic or the Republican Party was late with its list of presidential electors, or with its certification of whom the electors will vote for, but election officials always excused those two parties. Documentation exists that the major parties were late in these instances: (1) Democratic, Iowa, 1964; (2) Democratic and Republican, Indiana, 1988; (3) Democratic, Ohio, 1996; (4) Democratic, Montana, 1996; Florida, Republican, 2004; Democratic and Republican, Texas, 2008.

In 2016 the Arizona Green Party was late with its presidential electors, and the Secretary of State refused to accept them. The party sued in federal court and won the case. Arizona Green Party v Reagan, cv-16-2027. However it is not likely the Green Party has time to sue Louisiana this year.

  1. Third parties like Green Party should realize by now that they will be treated more harshly then the duopoly. Green Party along with the Libertarian party due to its brand name should have it a little easier then with other third parties in order to get Presidential electors. They should also elect their nominee not so late in the election cycle and make the primary process more transparent and fair but that’s another story.

  2. Exactly, that’s my point. The Green Party should have elected their nominee around the same time as the Libertarian party. That would have allowed them more time to organize petitions and get on hand electors.

  3. The Green Party schedules a presidential convention in July or August of the election year so as to make it easier to get primary season matching funds. The period for qualifying contributions ends with the date of the conventions. Jill Stein got her 2016 primary season matching funds ($456,035) in time to use the money to pay petitioners in states with late deadlines. But Howie Hawkins, who just applied for primary season matching funds, hasn’t received them yet, so the money will come too late for that purpose. Given that outcome, maybe it would have been better for the Green Party to have had an earlier presidential convention and not bothered with primary season matching funds. If Democrats win both houses of congress and the presidency in 2020, they will probably pass a bill in congress in 2021 making it much more difficult to get primary season matching funds anyway.

  4. 2-1 / 12 AMDT EC = 1 of the 3 USA ANTI-Democracy minority rule gerrymander systems.

1/2 or less votes x States/DC/USA Rep Dists with 270 [bare majority] of 538 EC votes = 1/4 or less of human voters elect each Prez/VP — since 1832.

1860 minority rule election of Lincoln = about 750,000 DEAD in 1861-1866 — with multi-thousands maimed for life – no eyes, hands, legs.

    Abolish ALL gerrymander systems

  5. But everybody knows “All animals are equal, but some animals (elephants and donkeys) are more equal than others.”

  6. Richard, tough call. Let’s remember that Stein didn’t have the degree of primary opposition that Hawkins did.

  7. The Green Party fundraising is/was tied to Nation Builder for insider control. But Nation Builder was owned by Democratics. So their funding went up when taking actions favorable to Democratics.

Now if their fundraising infrastructure is still tied in with Nation Builder and the Democratics, then they will keep having more problems with that.

The United Coalition USA is build around a stack of paper ballots and while everyone goes digital they will lose the big opportunity to learn about vote counting paper ballots under pure proportional representation.

The United Coalition USA is conducting votes of confidence every day through November on paper ballots so the Black Panther, One and Libertarian Party volunteers are keeping everything stable.

  8. That makes at least two states I’ve noticed, after WI, that Hawkins seems to have lost over easily avoidable mistakes unrelated to the signature hurdle.

EQUAL [AS IN 14-1 AMDT] ballot access — much too difficult for really stupid MORON lawyers and worse *judges*
    — SINCE 1968.

  10. A couple of the electors bailed at the last minute in Louisiana, and the Hawkins campaign must not have been able to get replacements in time.

  11. How many zillion changes to ballot access laws/regs by the statists in 2020 ???

    esp time deadlines ???

Can even the BAN 24/7 database keep up to date ???

  12. The Green Party is going to have a BIG drop in votes this year as compared to 2016, and it will mostly be due to appearing on a lot less ballots.
