  1. Gary Johnson got 3.58% in 2016 and 0.67% in 2012. The Libertarian candidate for Governor got 0.8% in 2018.

Polls tend to overestimate actual libertarian vote totals but a 4% reading for likely voters suggests that 2% to 3% is a reasonable expectation although Wisconsin’s status as a swing state will mean that the Libertarian message will be swamped until election day.

The Jorgensen campaign needs to pull at least 1% for 2024 ballot access.

  2. Libertarians should encourage early voting. Their polling numbers drop as election day approaches.

  3. Don’t know about 2-3%, Rock. I think the rule of thumb is divide by two except at the top of the ballot, where you divide by three.

That would still put her over 1% but just barely.

  4. Walter – it would be interesting to see if early votes had better LP percentages. I suspect it has less to do with timing and more to do with people being more willing to “act out” in a poll than in real voting.

Personally, I like to wait in order to prolong the agony of D/R acquaintances who believe I’m considering whether or not to “steal” their candidate’s vote. Like Nick Sarwark says, their tears are delicious.

  5. It will be interesting this year to see if there is a significant difference in third party votes between early voters and election day voters

  6. Jorgensen will finish under 1% in Wisconsin and will be a non factor. Those who disagree are delusional.

  7. @Timmy said, “Jorgensen…will be a non factor. Those who disagree are delusional.”

So, if Jo will be a non factor, then all those Trump and Biden supporters in Wisconsin who are saying to those who are voting for Jo ‘You are just going to help elect [Trump/Biden]’ – whichever candidate they don’t support, are delusional? They obviously believe she will be a factor or why say she will throw the election to the ‘other’ guy.

  8. Nah… Trump will tweet all sorts or stupid stuff and Biden will forget his name, where he is and wet himself on national TV. Jorgensen and everyone else will have nothing to do with this Greatest Show On Earth!
