In the 2020 presidential election, support from 568,289 voters was required to get on the ballot for president (as an independent candidate, or the nominee of a new or previously unqualified party) in all 51 jurisdictions.
That figure uses the easiest method to get on the ballot in each state. In some states, the independent procedure is the easiest method. In others, the new party procedure is easier. The calculation uses the easier method. For California, it was deemed “easier” to get 196,964 signatures on a petition, than to persuade 68,672 individuals to register into a new party. Although 196,964 is a far larger number than 68,672, that is counterbalanced by the relative ease of getting a petition signature versus membership in a new party.
For Florida, the calculation uses a figure of 29, because a new party can become recognized with no petition, and can then be on for president if it has at least 29 registered members who become that party’s presidential electors. This year, Florida did not enforce its law requiring National Committee status from the Federal Election Commission. It didn’t enforce it in 2008 or 2012 either, but it did enforce it in 2016.
The number of supporters (mainly petition signers) of 568,289 is the lowest since 1968, when the number was 545,878. The 1968 number is somewhat ambiguous because it uses an Ohio figure of zero, because the US Supreme Court struck down Ohio’s petition requirements in 1968 and put the American Independent Party on the ballot even though it had not complied with the law. The Court said the Socialist Labor Party was also entitled to declaratory relief against Ohio, but that the SLP could not be on the ballot because it had asked for relief from the U.S. Supreme Court too late.
The 2024 requirements will be far, far worse than they were in 2020, if activists do not seek ballot access relief between now and 2024. The turnout in 2020 was so large that the states in which the requirements are dependent on turnout will have much higher requirements.
Do you have any estimates on examples of higher requirements as mentioned in the last two sentences?
I have to wonder if some of the turn out increase is due to Joe Biden supporters stuffing ballots with fake, or otherwise illegal, votes for Joe Biden.
Andy, most Secretaries of State are Republicans. The Attorney General of the U.S. is a Republican. The overwhelming majority of county clerks or county auditors in the nation are Republican. If there is voter fraud, they would know and they would do something about it.
What about states where Democrats have those offices? Like Pennsylvania, which has a Democrat Governor.

Over 100% of the increase is due to fake votes and ballot stuffing by demon craps. Trump actually won in a massive landslide and they are trying to steal the election.
I do not think the higher voter turn out is solely due to fraud. Most of it is likely just due to more people having voted because it was a hyped up presidential election, but ballot stuffing could be making it even higher, like icing on the cake.
If states were smart, they would allow filing fees in place of nomination signatures. Then, when voter turnout is up, many candidates will opt for filing fees in the next election.
Richard, what about Michigan? The SoS, Gov, and AG are all Democrats. I’m pretty sure Detroit and Flint, where some of these dead people has addresses, are run by Democrats. I have personally witnessed lots of petition circulators lying and using deceptive tactics so they can get more people to sign petitions so they make more money. If people will brazenly lie so they can get paid on a petition signature, just think of what they will do to capture a high political office like President.
Just to be clear, I am not saying all petition circulators always lie and use deceptive tactics (some never do), but it goes on more often than some people apparently realize.
In one small county in Michigan the program Dominion was found to have misread 6,000 ballots and reported them as votes for Biden rather than Trump. This program is being used in 47 Michigan counties as well as in 30 states. If this program is misreading votes at the same rate then Trump actually won the election on a massive scale.
Trump got at least 80 percent of legitimate votes. Maybe 90. Since all other votes are suspect they should all be thrown out, and they will be.

With gerrymandered, single member districts, and first-past-the-post voting, most elections are rigged before the ballots are printed. Then, high signature requirements and campaign finance add other barriers to entry keep the number of candidates manageably small for the establishment. No need to stuff ballot boxes in Potemkin village elections.
