Six Republican Senators Introduce Proposed Constitutional Amendment for Congressional Term Limits — 8 Comments

  1. A pretty good idea. But a better idea, IMO, would be to authorize each state legislature to set whatever limits its wants for its own Representatives and Senators, AND authorizes each state to recall them according to their own laws.

  2. Congress would not have authority to pass a law telling states anything about state term limits. Maybe you meant a constitutional amendment.

  3. @Walter – add to that that the states pay their congresscriters, not with funds from the federal coffers. If a state wants to pay more, let the taxpayers of THAT state foot the bill. But if the taxpayers say “hey wait a minute, you’re not wort that much” then they get less.

  4. Term LIMITS for legis – one more pre-skoool/junior high DOOFUSS remedy —

ONLY leads to more/worse lawless tyrant execs/judics.

Prime example – Mich — NONSTOP TYRANT Guvs since 1994 — now spreading to tyrant AGs and tyrant SOSs and tyrant county execs and tyrant mayors.
    ——–
    THE FATAL problem —

    minority rule gerrymanders since 1776.

    TOTSOP

  5. A better option would be to limit service based on age. No representative or senator could be elected if total service at the end of the term was greater than 1/3 of their age.

Or perhaps limit service to no more than 8 years in a 12-year period, and switch to 4-year terms for senators.

  6. Any folks been to a law library recently and detected the size of

Annual USA session laws — esp $$$ spending laws.
US Code — many of which USA laws in force incorporate state laws.
    Code of Fed Regs
    SCOTUS ops ???

NO experience legis = more/worse exec/judic lawless tyrants.
