According to this news story, the Virginia Elections Department has settled a lawsuit, and as a result, only 2,000 signatures will be required for statewide offices this year. Normally the requirement is 10,000. Also the distribution requirement is easier in 2021 than it is normally. Only fifty signatures are needed from each U.S. House district, as opposed to the normal 400 from each district. The lawsuit is Goldman v Virginia Dept. of Elections, Richmond city circuit court, CL20006468. Here is the 5-page order.
The court order applies to all statewide candidates this year, primary and general alike. The court order also permits signers to photograph their signature and e-mail it to the group or candidate who is petitioning, and that type of signatures counts. This is a first for Virginia.
Virginia elects three statewide offices this year: Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General. The State Board of Elections webpage still shows that 10,000 signatures are required this year for primary candidates for statewide office, so it is not up-to-date. This is nice, but reality is that people successfully gathered millions of petition signatures to place ballot initiatives, and referendums on the ballot, as well as many more signatures to place candidates on the ballot, across the country, during this supposed “health crisis,” and I have not heard of one person dying, or even getting sick with COVID, who was out collecting these signatures, and I was one of those people. Right now in California, the petition to Recall Gavin Newsom has collected over 1.2 million signatures. COVID is an over-hyped SHAM.
I don’t know how anyone would know whether anyone got sick as a result of petitioning activity. When someone goes to the doctor, how would the doctor know exactly how the person caught the virus?
This is great news, and completely unexpected.
LPVA ran a candidate for governor in 2017 (but no other statewide office), and US Senator in 2018, but took a pass on running a Senate Candidate in 2020. I’ve read some commentary from LPVA indicating they may take a pass on any statewide candidates this year, and focus on running more legislative candidates. The reason stated for this was 10K signatures was a big effort, and the number of signatures needed for legislative candidates for all 100 seats was approximately the same number. With this news, I hope they rethink this, though I realize this will depend on getting a willing candidate. After all, I’d hate to think that my only two choices for governor would be Terry MacAulliffe and Amanda Chase. Or Jennifer MacLelland and Amanda Chase.
Richard, I know a lot of people in the world of petitioning, plus I have asked around the petition world to see if anyone I know knows somebody who died or got sick from COVID, and I found a grand total of ZERO.
Petition circulators come in close contact with a lot of people. A petition circulator can easily come in contact with 1,000 people per day, sometimes more, sometimes less, but a lot of people no matter how you look at it.
One might then say that it was all young and healthy people gathering petition signatures. Not true. Sure, some petition circulators were 18-30’s, but there were also a lot of petition circulators older than that, including some in their 60’s and 70’s. I know people who had preexisting health problems and were over the age of 50 who were out gathering petition signatures who never got sick.
You might say every petitioner wore a mask and frequently used hand sanitizer. Not true. Some did, but a lot did not, or only wore a mask part of the time.
I was at multiple petition turn ins where lots of petition circulators were crowded together, along with petition coordinators, and in some cases, petition validity checkers and/or notaries, and nobody was wearing a mask, and NOBODY got sick.
Once again, I know a lot of people in the petition world, and I have asked around, and I found ZERO cases of anyone in the petitioning world having gotten sick with COVID.
This is more evidence that COVID IS A SCAM.
I can’t imagine signing an in person petition right now or even being anywhere where someone would ask me. I don’t even go to the grocery store in person anymore, I just get instacart delivery, or Amazon for anything that’s not groceries, and I have them leave it at the other end of the driveway. Then I put on a hazmat suit to go get the groceries and hose them off before I go in the house. Anyone I used to go talk to in person, I talk to on zoom, Skype or FaceTime now. I know a lot of people who died from covid, too. If anything it’s underhyped. And yes I’m serious.

Richard, you must know some very sickly people, if these people legitimately had COVID, and were not misdiagnosed as lots of people have been, and I have to wonder if the person who died did not have a co-morbidity.
I have a relative that is over 80, and got diagnoses with cancer last year. This person still walks to a grocery store to shop. They have not gotten COVID.
I know a petitioner who has been gathering petition signatures most of the last year, who us over 70, who just had a heart attack and may end up dying as a result. This person is overweight, and already had heart problems. They did NOT catch COVID.
Even if you go by the government’s statistics, which are wildly inflated, the odds of knowing 10 people who got COVID, are very small, unless maybe you work in a hospital.
