Pennsylvania Bill Restricting Write-in Votes Advances

On September 21, the Pennsylvania Senate Government Committee passed SB 56. It is very badly worded, but it seems to say that in primaries and general elections alike, write-in vote totals will not be revealed unless the write-in candidate receives a number of write-in votes equal to the number of signatures that would have been needed to get on the ballot. The required number seems to be the number of petition signatures relating to get on a primary ballot, even though the bill affects general elections as well as primary elections. Here is the text.

The sponsor of the bill, Senator Scott Martin (R-Lancaster) says the bill is needed to prevent persons from receiving party nominations, or election, who don’t want to be nominated or elected. But there is a much more sensible way to achieve that goal. The legislature could require that write-in candidates must file a declaration of write-in candidacy if they want their write-ins counted. Pennsylvania is the only populous state that doesn’t have a write-in declaration of candidacy procedure.

  1. Yes, people who don’t want be elected can resign if they are elected. How many special elections have been needed to fill vacancies because the person elected refused the office? The is simply another smokescreen for ballot censorship of those who would be willing to to serve if elected. But under a fascist state any excuses will do to hold power using sham elections.

  2. Good bill. All votes should go to GOP ONLY and only to candidates 100% loyal to TRUMP. My uncle Larry is the Prophet and Patriarch and he has declared it so, so that’s just how it is. End of story.

  3. Yet another measure ensuring Pennsylvania has the most restrictive ballot access laws in the nation. All you need to do to know Pennsylvania is an outlier on the issue is compare how many candidates are on PA’s ballot with, say, Colorado. And ALL votes should be counted — no matter who someone votes for. Evem when it’s a would-be Stalin who encourages his followers to beat up those who don’t support him or better yet, try to overthrow the results of an election with a made-up claim of fraud (there was none). That’s called treason, yet I don’t see all those people getting anything more than a slap on the wrist.

  4. For the 2022 Pennsylvania election, the GOP has Dr. Oz as the candidate for the U.S. Senate. In my opinion, Dr. Oz is nothing more than a lackey for Klaus Schwab and the World Economic Forum (WEF). President Biden and the Democrats aligned with the WEF are hell bent on destroying the country with their lies and (half-truths). We need someone in the Senate that understands that threat to the Republic. We are poised just like the Roman Republic that fell after 500 years due to corruption and immorality of the Senators and their elite followers.

In my opinion, the only person that is a true Republican for the Senate Seat is grass roots favorite Kathy Barnette. She received over 300K votes. Requesting that all Republicans and disgruntled Democrats write in vote for “Kathy Barnette”.

  5. I think democracy can stand with tallying the write-in-votes as they are often a protest vote because a voter might not like any of the candidates listed. All votes should be eventually listed and published. If you can win by one vote, that means one vote is important. So getting one vote is just as important. It might just be that that one write-in vote is what actually decided the winner! That is how important this is to keeping democracy alive. Also if I should see my write-in vote counted and listed then I know my other votes were registered and counted.

  6. Did you know that just one write in vote causes your whole ballot to need be hand counted? That’s just one way around Dominion.

  7. Pennsylvanian Republican legislators who always seem to make bad laws worse. Disgusting.

  8. This sucks. I hate our choices right now so I don’t get to vote at all? Been voting since I am 18 now 56 and I’m given the choices of the worst candidates in the history of the US. I would prefer to write in who I think would do a great job and have it counted. She is from SD and in my opinion would make an amazing president.

  9. Relax. Choices are fine. Trump is on the ballot.
