On July 7, New Jersey’s Governor signed A30, which moves the state’s presidential primary from June to the last Tuesday in February. He also signed A38, which provides for a blank line on the voter registration form in the question about choice of “political party”. In the past, the voter registration form itself didn’t ask about the voter’s choice of political party, but a separate form associated with the voter registration form did ask. Because the two forms were separate, many voters didn’t deal with the second form, so a small proportion of New Jersey voters had been members of any party.
What if the voters spell the party’s name incorrectly when registering?
e.g. Democrat, Democratic.
Pennsylvania has a number of boxes to choose from: D, R, Constitution, and Green are the choices – maybe also something like Unaffiliated or No Party. I don’t remember seeing any other choices but maybe I have forgotten. Then there is a box for “Other” which is where I entered “Prohibition Party.”
Oh – I forgot that the Reform Party was listed when I registered but I don’t know if it is still included in the list.
A copy of the old separate form is at this link.
It is part of a NJLP newletter.

The form has check boxes for 7 parties. Only two of them have primaries.
Democratic, Republican, Green Party, Libertarian Party, Natural Law Party, Reform Party and U.S. Constitution Party.
