Unity08 Influences Minnesota Independent Congressional Candidate

Unity08 is not yet a political party, and it may never become one. However, already it has inspired an independent candidate for Congress this year to use “Unity” as his ballot label. Harry Welty is on the ballot in Minnesota’s 8th congressional district this year as an independent candidate, and is ballot label is “Unity”. He says he was inspired by Unity08 to choose that label. Welty is the only opponent of the Democratic and Republican nominees in the 8th district race. He also ran as an independent for the same office in 1992 and polled over 22,000 votes, placing 3rd out of 4 candidates.

Citizens For A Better Veterans Home comments:

Don Lake and others whom have researched American
reformers all the way back to Ben Franklin and
Thomas Paine more than under stand an even
moderately sucessful local/ state effort to be reluctant to
permanently fuse with a more established or
bigger organization. Such wooing and permanent
fusion (and later betrayal) of the Perot like
1892 Populists Party (of Grange, farmer/ rancher,
small town, anti rail road, anti Robber Baron
base) by the seemingly ‘friendly’ Democratic
Party (North, West and Dixie branches) doomed the rural
    Progressives as a national force.

Philip Sawyer, John Coffey, Tish Firmiss and
Lake are Perot/ Perot/ Nader/ Nader voters, even
while members of various parties. Eugene Debbs
won over a million votes for POTUS in 1920 while in federal prison (via the FBI) and
we did not see the logic of P&F’s punnie, frail
    imitations.

Not everyone takes the ‘marriage’ leap like (U.
    S. Constitution Party permanent locals)
    California’s American Independent Party and
Nevada’s Independent American Party. How ever we
(and others) still do not see why one state or
regional minor and micro parties do not eagerly
affiliate with more national figures or
organizations on national efforts or elections.

Ya do not have to be a Democan or a Republicrat
to be felon stupid! (Greens rebuffing Nader,
Peace and Freedom’s prisoner brigades, and every
one allowing the millions of unattended National
Law Party registered voters to slide into
oblivian after April 2004, come readily to mind!)

Permanent fusion can be the road to ruin.
Election by election association (in the true,
original, more proper use of the word!) can be
    the road to victory!

  2. Hello Richard,

You said you’d mention my campaign and this is one of the reasons I think I’ll have more traction than I generatted in 1992 when I first ran for Congress. I didn’t have the money then. I don’t have it now but the Internet is a big leveler. An expert told me that something like seventy percent of our voters have internet access although some of it is only dial up.

I’ve got a website I’m hoping will engross voters for a lot longer than the annoying thirty second spots that they will be innundated with in October.

Check it out: http://www.welty4congress.org or check out my blog: http://www.lincolndemocrat.org

  3. Thanks for mentioning Harry’s campaign. I’m Harry’s campaign manager. We’d be happy to hear from people with thoughts, ideas, and suggestions on the campaign and strategies, particularly ways to use the internet to get out the word and get people interested and involved. Heck, even good jokes help; they certainly can’t hurt.
