Florida Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Now Favors Voting for Ex-Felons

On October 17, Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist told the Miami Herald editorial board that he has changed his position on whether ex-felons should be able to register to vote, and he now favors voting rights for ex-felons. 30% of all African-American adult males in Florida are unable to register to vote because of the existing ban. Crist said he had changed his opinion after being repeatedly asked about the issue during the campaign. He is currently Attorney General of Florida.

  1. Here’s a novel idea: if you don’t want to be an ex-felon, don’t commit a crime!

Frederic Bastiat warned of the dangers of universal suffrage in his famous essay, ‘The Law.’ Universal suffrage is, in my view, the basis of many of our problems today.

  2. In most states, ex-felons who are no longer in prison or on parole have their rights restored, and can vote. America is based on the idea that people who have paid for their crimes deserve to be re-integrated into society.

There are so many laws that can make someone a felon – marijuana laws, tax laws, insider trading laws etc – that many activities once legal in America now put you at risk of prosecution. It is simple justice to allow people who have served the time to become part of society again.

  3. Ex-felons should have their liberties (like voting) restored. Once a person pays his debt to society than that shouldn’t be held over that persons head the rest of his/her life.

  4. Felons fall into a broad category. There are many “crimes” that should not even be felonies, but they are and if you are poor, which most blacks are, you are more likely to be a felon. Most are drug related and many are parole violations. Those with money can avoid a felony wrap by attending school and those without can’t. Dangerous criminals belong behind bars. I personally believe 1st degree murderers, rapists and child molesters should never be free and therefore, never be allowed to vote. Felons who have paid their debt to society should be allowed to vote. I believe anyone who should not be allowed to vote, probably shouldn’t be walking the streets either.

  5. WHAT S0-CALLED CHRISTIAN WOULD REFUSE TRUE REPENTANCE AND REDEMPTION. ONLY A RACIST BIGOT WOULD REFUSE A HUMAN TO REPENT, REHAB, AND RECOMPENSE. MAYBE IF YOU FLORIDA WOULD ALLOW HIM/HER TO VOTE AND APPLY FOR STATE OCCUPATION LICENSING, PERHAPS THEY WILL NOT BE INSIDE YOUR HOME ROBBING WHILE YOU ARE AT WORK.
P.S. – MS. NOELLE(JEB)BUSH HAS POSSESSED, SMOKED AND BEEN ARRESTED 3 SEPERATE TIMES IN FLORIDA (ONCE CAUGHT BY GUARDS IN HER PRISON DRUG-TREATMENT) AND STEALING FROM A GUARDS PURSE (THAT WE KNOW OF). SHE MYSTERIOUSLY DIDN’T LOSE THE RIGHT TO VOTE, NOR DID SHE RECEIVE 20 YEARS LIKE THE OTHER 100,000 “REGULAR” PEOPLE ROTTING IN CELLS. THAT’S 45,000 A YEAR IN TAXDOLLARS PER INMATE JUST SITTING AROUND! GET A CLUE SILVER SPOON!
