Scotland Greens Help Put Scottish National Party in Power

On May 16, Scotland’s Parliament chose Alex Salmond to be First Minister. He is the leader of the Scottish National Party. Although that party is 73 years old, it has never before been able to form a government of Scotland. The vote was 49 to 46. The 47 members of the SNP, plus the 2 Green Party members, voted for Salmond. All 46 Labor Party members voted for the outgoing First Minister. The representatives from the Conservative and Liberal Democratic Parties, and the lone independent, all abstained. The two Greens were only elected because elections for the Scottish Parliament use proportional representation.

  1. Congratulations upon your wonderful election victory & the choice of First Minister. Three points I cannot understand: (1)Mr Brown claims the SNP aims to break up UK, yet it is HE that claims ‘it is IMPOSSIBLE for him to work with Alex. (2)How do Libs support the PRINCIPLE of P.R. when they refuse to work with Alex? (3)Please inform me what is wrong with holding a referendum. Surely governments rule by the wishes of the people? I always thought that was what governments were for. Best wishes.

  2. The Liberal Democrats have stood by their principals on this issue. We are a Unionist party and for this reason refuse to support the SNP.

  3. The liberals have no principals. They offer a manifesto to the electorate that is 90% similar to the SNp.They know that they cannot deliver it on thewir own but refuse the opportunity to form a coaltion that would be able to deliver.Liberal voters must wonder why they voted for them.

Of course the Liberals are against independence but a majority of the population favour independence or greater powers for the scottish Parliament.A majority also favour a referndum on those issues. The Liberals have treated those views with contempt.

  4. Congratulations to the SNP.
Labour lost this election by telling lies, so you know how to lose the next one Alex…Keep it clean.
Ex Referendum Party Candidate Hamilton North and Bellshill 97.
