According to this article in the September 23 Orlando Sentinel newspaper, the Florida Democratic Party now is leaning toward choosing its delegates to the national convention in the January 29. A formal announcement is expected on September 23. If true, the national Democratic Party will deprive the state party of all its delegates, and require that the party’s presidential candidates not campaign in Florida between September 30 and January 30…or, possibly, the national party will give in.
All the State Democrats have to do is make it clear that if their delegates are not seated at the Convention, they will put somebody else’s name on the Florida Democratic line come November. This will automatically give Florida to the Republicans, or force the National Democratic Party to scramble and put their candidate on another line somehow. I’m presuming since it’s the State Democrats who put the candidate on the Democratic line, they can put on there anybody they want. The DNC wouldn’t dare take the chance of splitting the Florida vote, leaving the state to the Republicans.
