On October 13, the Virginia Republican Party decided to authorize a presidential primary next year, on February 12. Last time there was a Virginia Republican presidential primary was in 2000, when it was held on February 29. The Republican 2008 primary will be winner-take-all. Whoever comes in first will get all the state’s delegates.
I used to live in Virginia, and I know several Libertarians who had wanted to vote for Ron Paul in a primary. As Virginia is an “open primary” state, anyone can vote in a party’s primary, irrespective of their registration. I guess the only way now is to become a delegate to the Republican state convention. But the Republican Party of Virginia has a long history of nominating by convention, rather than by primary. They just don’t want Democrats or others voting in their primary. The Democrats however, have kept their nominating process open, and have run primaries nearly every time (for statewide office that is).
I also suspect that with Ron Paul’s cross party appeal, the RPV had even more incentive to close the process off, and give all the delegates to the winner at convention. Ron Paul has very little chance of getting them now, IMHO.
Well, I have reread the news item, and I am now eating crow that the RPVa IS having a presidential primary. But with the winner taking all the delegates, Ron Paul still has a long way to go to get the Virginia delegates. I wonder if the 15,000 or so perennial Libertarian presidential candidate voters will take the time to vote in the Republican primary for Ron Paul. And who knows, maybe there really are alot of others, non traditional Republicans, independents and Democrats who will pull the lever for Ron Paul.
Now is the time to be positive! Most people understand that Ron Paul is constantly facing an uphill battle, but when the media blackout ends others will finally see what RP supporters have known for some time: he is the candidate to vote for if we want real change! For this to happen we have to spread the word to our friends, families, and neighbors and donate whatever we can to his campaign. Most people desparately want to vote for someone who will make a difference; let’s do everyone a favor and tell them about Ron Paul!
Since all other candidates for president do NOT show that they support the Constitution, common logic tells us that Dr. Ron Paul is the ONLY CANDIDATE who is QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT! He also is the only candidate who has the intestinal fortutide to OPPOSE the creation of ONE government OVER the UNITED STATES, MEXICO, AND CANADA. That means abolishing the MEXICAN and CANADIAN boarders with the United States. That is TREASON which is being pushed by both presidents Bush. Go to:
