Vermont Instant Runoff-Voting Bill Passes Legislature

On March 21, the Vermont legislature gave final approval to SB 108, a bill that was introduced in 2007. It establishes Instant-Runoff Voting for general election congressional elections. If the Governor signs it, Vermont will be the first state to have used Instant-Runoff Voting for any statewide general elections.

  1. Could this be the critical point that shoots electoral reform to the national spotlight? I hope so!!

  2. I would like to see some sort of “equal preference” IRV in the future. IRV is an important move but I think the impact in American elections would be bigger if we allowed for this improvement.

  3. I wonder if it has enough votes to make it veto-proof, in case the Governor does that?
