On July 15, the Minnesota deadline for filing for the primary, Dean Barkley filed in the Independence Party primary for U.S. Senate. Another Independence Party member, Jack Ulrich, also filed for the seat, so the party will have a contested primary. Barkley was the U.S. Senator for Minnesota for a few months in late 2002, after Senator Paul Wellstone was killed.
What strange times we live in! Body Builder False Reformer Schwarzenegger for Callie Phornia Govenator! Hollywood actor Dutch Reagan for California Governor and POTUS!
John Insane McCane will make them all look brilliant!
I think Dean Barkley can run a more serious campaign than Jesse Ventura. Good luck to him!
there’s actually 7 candidates in the Independence party primary
Kurt Anderson, Dean Barkley, Bill Dahn, Darryl Stanton, Jack Uldrich, Stephen Williams and Doug Williams
Dahn and Doug Williams are frequent candidates, Stanton ran as a Democrat, Uldrich ran as a Republican in 1996, and Stephen Williams got the endorsement.
2006 MNIP Senate nominee Rob Fitzgerald is running as a Democrat for the US Senate.
Great News!
The Independence Party Minnesota primary will really be between Senator Dean Barkley and Jack Uldrich, both of whom share very similar views as true independents. Senator Barkley will have the advantage of higher name recognition and experience as a Minnesota Senator.
From an editorial of the Minnesota’s largest newspaper today:
“(Barkley) does bring political experience: He has run for office himself, and was instrumental in Ventura’s “shock the world” victory in 1998. He has also gone beyond politics into policy, as director of the Office of Strategic and Long Range Planning in the Ventura administration. Barkley’s even had the job before, albeit for a very brief time; Ventura as governor appointed him to serve the remainder of Sen. Paul Wellstone’s term after Wellstone’s death in 2002.
What Barkley doesn’t bring may be even more important: The cult-of-personality, carnival campaign atmosphere that would have come with a Ventura candidacy. Voters can expect Barkley to go beyond criticizing Washington’s partisan gridlock and offer constructive, workable solutions to key problems. “
Our sister party in Minn has a fine slate to pick from the the Independence Party nominee for U.S. Senate.
Dean Barkley is a gentleman, and fine fellow.
Dede your comments are right on the money.
Go, Dean, go!
Sure Dean Barkley is a gentleman, and fine fellow.
Thats why he as a lawyer helpped Jesse Bribe Bill Dahn in the 1998 to change to a Republican from the Reform Party.
