The Green Party of Oregon (whose name is the Pacific Green Party) has nominated Walt Brown as its nominee for Attorney General. Brown was the Socialist Party presidential candidate in 2004. Also he is a former Democratic State Senator from Oregon.

Well this is an interesting development. Is this something that happened because Walt accepted?
I was in a meeting with Walt Brown a couple weeks ago, and he mentioned something about the Independent Party of Oregon wanting to nominate him for something so that they could retain ballot access. His response was that he would only do so if the Moore/Alexander ticket was their presidential nominee, so I’m curious as to what the specifics are in this case…

Your statement is incorrect. At the meeting on August 16th in Seattle that we both attended, I stated that I would run for the Independent Party seat if they ran Brian Moore. The Independent Party has non-threatened ballot access due to it’s high voter registration. The Pacific Green Party has to get a certain percentage of the vote to retain it’s ballot access. Both parties had spoken to me about running. I stated this. I had not accepted with any party. Since the Socialist Party of Oregon had lost ballot access, I did not have my own party’s platform to run on as I had done previously. I was nominated by the Pacific Green Party on August 16th while I was in Seattle. I found out after I got home from Seattle. I did not accept right away. In fact, I still tried to get the Independent Party to run Brian Moore. They declined this last weekend and I accepted the Pacific Green Party nomination, but under the condition that I retain my socialist standing. I did not change my voter registration and it will not be an issue for me to address myself as a socialist and it will not be an issue for me to bring up the SPUSA. In fact the Pacific Greens note it in their press release. I am in the process of writing to the SPUSA NAC to inform them of the situation. I will be bringing it to the NAC of the Socialist Party USA and it will be discussed with them. Once again, if you have any questions, you may certainly call me.
The Independet Party of Oregon is falling victim to the same problem the Reform Party had, not standing for anything. They probably would nominate the Socialist ticket, they’re Naderish but he’s dumped then. Plus, they’re backing a Republican in a house race. They need to pick what they stand for.
Not true, B-L, the reform movement is a perfect example of standing for the following, loud and clear:
Bickering
Lying/ Deceiption
Theft
Corruption *
Whining [Napa, California HQ ???]
* Independence Party thug Frank MacKay paid John Bambey $500 in late December 2007, a month later he was the [so called] CEO/ Chair of the [so called] Reform Party USA. ….
* John Blare and Valli Sharpe Geisler still owe Tish Firmiss [via Donald Raymond Lake] money for party related expenses…..
* None too Presidential Mississippian Ted Weill brought he own gang of HIS EMPLOYEES to make sure he got on the court monitored and jucidial mandated ballot [in Mississippi and Louisiana]
bolshevik-leninist,
In Oregon, the Independent party has stated numerous times that what they stand for is getting people on the ballot easily. It is not a party as much as it is a group of people interested in forwarding people’s right to vote for who they want to.
As an Oregonian, that has been my understanding.
Ain’t it a shame how the Internet never forgets?
“In reality Workers World is not politically aligned with the North Korean or Chinese governments, it rather takes the position that to criticize these regimes is too aid the propaganda of the imperialists. I strongly disagree with this position, but at least understand the substantive difference. Walt Brown’s support for imperialist policies, however, was not any more defensible than the positions taken by Workers World.”
-Matt Erard (September 26, 2006)
“The last several months Walt [Brown] has been working with Matt Erard on the Brian Moore campaign, and he has found that Matt has one of the best legal minds he has ever come across. He is so impressed with Matt’s insightful and well done research into matters, as well, his quick mind and passion for it, that he thinks Matt should and could be a formidable Civil Rights Attorney. But, since Walt does not make career choices for Matt, and Matt has just been accepted into a sociology major…then Walt feels that it is the legal field’s great loss.” -Beverly Brown
