C-SPAN Will Cover Nader-Baldwin Debate Live — 20 Comments

  1. You just made my day Richard !!!!!

I had sent the email I recieved from John Kraus (freeandequal.org) to everyone on facebook and other places to call C-Span this morning and ask C-SPAN to please carry it LIVE.
I hope that made some difference.

Below is the email I recieved from John Kraus:

    Hi Jonathan,

C-SPAN has confirmed for the event, though they have yet to confirm whether it will be live. If you would like to give them a call to request they broadcast it live, that’d be very useful. It’s the type of incentive that may help get all 4 candidates to confirm and make for the best debate possible.

Please have others you know do the same if they’d to help this event get maximum exposure. Thanks.

I would like to proudly announce TODAY I voted for Ralph Nader in early voting here in Broward County Florida.

Most of you know I supported Barr all along until he, Jason Pye, and ofcourse Mr. Verney decided they are too big or too busy to debate other Third Party candidates.

I had looked the other way when Barr and crew blew off Ron Paul costing the campaign many and I do mean many votes to Baldwin, but this was the last straw for me.

I gotta tell you I feel good about my vote.

I can’t wait to watch the debate tomorrow LIVE.
Now I gotta email the world to watch .
Have a good night , I’m busting with happiness.

  2. I am not a Barr fan but the planning was once again piss poor and done by a Nader staff member to make sure Bob Barr was not available.

Did you see this posting on their web site:
    http://blog.bobbarr2008.com/2008/10/22/statement-on-tomorrows-debate/

I wish they would just give up on these so called minor party debates. It’s sort of too little too late. Hopefully by 2012 they can get their act together, promote the debates way ahead of time, coordinate with the major third parties, and find a major media outlet to sponsor as well as a very well known host/moderator.

What a sham. I am also upset that Baldwin broke down and is doing this because it will not give him an ounce of publicity, except perhaps the bad kind since I am sure it would be one sided against him and for Nader. Why wasn’t the other third party candidates like George Phillies invited? I am sure he would be delighted to stand in for Barr!

  3. you are not a Barr fan but you are making excuses. Barr has said over and over and over he would not participate in a third party debate unless it was him and Nader alone. Also here is a newsflash: George Phillies is not running for President.
This is just another suicide move by Barr to lose more votes. Apparently he did not lose quite enough when he gave the finger to RON PAUL.
I’m starting to believe Barr is an infiltrator.

  4. Actually, Phillies is running for President, but only in NH.

The candidates who were invited are the ones who are on the ballot in enough states to be able to win.

  5. From freeandequal.org :

Free and Equal has also been informed that Bob Barr has declined to participate in the LIVE C-SPAN DEBATE from 9:00pm to 10:30 EST. due to scheduling conflicts.

How do you like that Barr supporters, I’m glad I woke up just in time . I proudly voted for Nader due to this. This was just one more insult I could not take

  6. I think a series of three or four debates run by an independent force, eo which all candaites who is on the Nov ballot in enough states to theoretically carry the EC.

Make them a big thing in advance, before the nominations settle out, as a way of maintaining a pressure on the candidates to attend, and then when the majors refuse, more hay can be made of their ignoring these presidential debates, etc.

  7. YES!
Finally a real debate with real people talking about real issues!
    THank you C-Span.
    Thank you Nader and Baldwin.
Any third party that doesn’t join this debate is either stupid or a coward.
I agree, a 3rd party debate needs to be planned as soon as soon as possible for 2012, its only obvious, big government and big business will not let anyone inside their pearly gates.

  8. Pick the dates now. Three debates. East coast, west coast, midwest. Book the venues. Notify the RP, DP, LP, CP, and GP of when and where. Remind them often. There will be no excuse for a scheduling conflict except I don’t want to do it. If another candidate or party qualifes in enough states send them an invitation immediately.

  9. Considering how little notice the candidates had for this, I am not going to blame Bob Barr for not showing up at this.

On the other hand, considering that he snubbed Ron Paul a month or so ago and held a competing conference (indicating that he had no scheduling conflict), I can see why so many people do not trust him.

Nonetheless, I think that it would be a good idea for Libertarians who do not wish to support Baldwin to vote Barr anyway, because they can help the LP get access on more ballots next time if they do, which is the big goal right now.

Really, there should be a more coordinated attempt to set up debates for 2012.

  10. Yes Cynthia and Bob could not find the time in there oh so busy schedule…

    you have to be kidding.

  11. I have heard that there may be another debate scheduled soon, and that if it happens, Barr will be in attendance.

For those who don’t think the candidates have anything better to do; I know for a fact that the Barr campaign has been very busy. They just made another swing through Ohio last night, stopping at the University of Cincinnati. We also tried to get him into Northern Kentucky while he was nearby, but unfortunately our venue was canceled on us (not the campaign’s fault).

  12. I called to reserve 4 seats in the debate today and was told, I am sorry — you need to “BUY A TICKET ONLINE” and that “ONLY TWO MAY COME” — however when I tried to purchase a ticket the web page link looks like it is broken and no where on the web page does it say how much this ticket is. Wasn’t the reason counter debate free? Why did they only announce today that this costs money? Is so many people interested that they really have to limit tickets? Forget this crap — I guess I will watch on line (just to see how many people show up and PAY for this stupid poorly plan debacle of a debate).

Oh wait, perhaps because I am a Baldwin supporter is why they are trying to limit and charge me. I should call back, say I am a Nader raider, and see how many I can bring for free!

  13. Get this, I just heard from other CP/Baldwin folks, looks like they are getting the short shaft too! I called the campaign and they are considering my suggesting of bowing out because this is obviously a set up by the Nader folks.

  14. I asked the Barr and McKinney campaigns weeks ago if they were attending the original and got no response.

    Only Nader and Baldwin responded.

  15. Thank you Paulie — It is now working — and get this $50 per person.

They really need to limit this because I am sure the demand will be very very high. I can see so many people wanting to buy tickets at $100 a pair now. No wonder the sitw was down. This will be comparable to a Ron Paul money bomb for sure. Hope they have free drinks like reason did for this price!

  16. So here are some things I am wondering about

    1) Ken Moellman claims more debates are in the works. Does anyone have any info on this? I would especially appreciate something which can be verified with the campaigns.

    2) “NotABarrFan” says Baldwin/CP has been having problems and might pull out. Anyone from the Baldwin campaign/CP care to confirm or deny?

Posted at IPR (link above) also.
