Channel 8 in Las Vegas has this short report on the vice-presidential debate held November 2 between the vice-presidential nominees of the Constitution and Libertarian Party, and Ralph Nader’s vice-presidential nominee. UPDATE: Matt Gonzalez’ flight to Las Vegas was delayed considerably, so the debate started over three hours after the originally intended 6 p.m. beginning. UPDATE: the debate was only about an hour late, not three hours late.
I thought the debate was fantastic– better than all the major parties’ “debates” combined. Each candidate was given ample time to speak, and there were no interruptions. I liked the format, especially the five 90-second rebuttals that each candidate had to use as and when he pleased. Each candidate was even given a bonus 90-second rebuttal period.
The back-and-forth between Root and Gonzalez on healthcare was phenomenal.
They all did well, but I thought Root won on the basis of his passion– plus I agreed with just about every word that came out of his mouth. I look forward to his presidential candidacy in 2012.
The debate was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Pacific time, but it was about 45 minutes late.
Funny. It’s now 9:45PM PST as I write this. (Yes, I remembered to ‘fall back’ my clocks.) The debate has been over for some time now. If it were three hours late (9:00PM PST) getting started, it should now be just getting underway.
Stranger still, I recall streaming an entire debate earlier this evening that started (late) at round 6:45PM PST. And I could have sworn I saw Matt Gonzalez on stage several times.
Weird.
Great debate, the show stopper was the back and forth between Root and Gonzalez. Root lost his cool, while Gonzalez was cool and collected.
