Two bills to improve ballot access in New York have been introduced. A2651 reduces independent candidate signature requirements in special U.S. House elections. The bill decreases the number of signatures from 3,500 to 1,200. Also it expands the petitioning period in special elections from 12 days to 16 days. The sponsor is Assemblymember Barbara Clark (D-Queens Village).
S355 provides that small errors in all types of petitions should not mean that the petition is invalid, as long as it is obvious that no fraud was intended. The sponsor is Carl Kruger (D-Brooklyn).
Where’s Eric Dondero? I thought that he said that Demcrats never do anything to ease ballot access and that easing ballot access only comes from Republicans (never mind those Republicans right now in Missouri and Alaska who are trying to make ballot access more difficult in those states right now).
I’m not saying that Demcorats as a whole are anything great, I’m just saying that every once in a while they get something right, just like every once in a while a Republican will get something right.

Also, would it be correct in believing this couldn’t pass in time to apply in that race?
Yes, this bill wouldn’t help Eric Sundwall. Even if it passed overnight, normal bills don’t take effect immediately.
