Georgia Newspaper Feature Story on Problems with Georgia Voter ID Law

The February 5 issue of the Gainesville (Georgia) Times has this feature story about a Georgia resident who has been disenfranchised by Georgia’s law requiring voters to show a government photo ID in order to vote at the polls. As the article explains, another bill is pending to require people to prove they are citizens before they can register to vote.

  1. Depending on government, any government, to give permission for the mere people to participate in government, any government, is, at best, naive.
Politicians and bureaucrats give lip service to the notion that “everybody has a duty to vote,” but in fact they LOVE it when we stay home and just let them remain in office and keep on spending our money and giving away our lives and property as they wish.

  2. Requiring photo IDs for voting is a poll tax, unless all voters are provided with one for free before the election.

  3. I wonder how other States have handled this issue — it would be nice to know to see what the ‘norm’ is.

I can understand the desire to ensure that only qualifed adult citizens vote, but I also know that their is a sneaky desire to eliminate people because of their race or class.
