Maryland State Senators Andrew Harris (R-Cockeysville) and Jamie Raskin (D-Takoma Park) have introduced SB 947, to lower the number of signatures for a new or previously unqualified party from 10,000 to 5,000. Thanks to Brandon Payne for this news.

Good for you, Jamie Raskin. This is very good news.
When you consider that Harris, who lost his bid for congress to a candidate who got less than 50% of the vote, is co-sponsoring this bill it speaks volumes! I know many Republicans were upset with us Libertarians for running someone in that district and ‘playing spoiler’.
If at all possible, I’d like to see the requirements for ballot retention changed. While a party needs to get 1% at the top of the ticket, I would like to see where getting 3% for any congressional or statewide office, 10% for any state legislative office or 15% for any county office will also be sufficient to maintain ballot access for another term.
