On March 11, the Socialist Workers Party announced that it had nominated Angela Lariscy for Governor of New Jersey, and will obtain the needed 800 valid signatures to get her on the ballot. The Socialist Workers Party has nominated someone for Governor of New Jersey twelve times. The party’s best showing for that office was its first attempt, in 1946, when Alan Kohlman received .70% of the total vote cast for Governor.
The Socialist Party USA is also running Greg Pason for Governor of New Jersey, though I’m not sure if an official announcement has been made.
Republicans got us into NJ’s “debt crisis” through tax cuts to the wealthy. Corzine has had his time to hack and slash the budget, GOP-style.
A socialist could really improve the lots of New Jerseyans by expanding funding for education as well as other social services.
This year it’s going to happen.
