A bill pending in the Maine legislature, LD 3, has made no progress by certain legislative deadlines, and is therefore dead. It would have said that the term for voters who are not registered in a qualified party is “Independent Voter”, not “Unenrolled voter.”
Why would REGISTERED voters that choose not to be a member of a party be listed as “unenrolled”?
Because they are “not enrolled” in a party. You apparently are not “enrolled” to vote buyt “registered.”
So it’s a big semantics game.
You do not “enroll” in a party, either – so much for semantics.
Alabama registers voters by “Race”, not party – thanks, in part, to the Voting Rights Act.
Maybe they should change it to “unenthralled”
