West Virginia Ballot Access Bill Advances

On April 1, the West Virginia House passed HB 2981. This is the bill that lowers the number of signatures for new party and independent candidates from 2% of the last vote cast, to 1%, and also moves the non-presidential petition deadline from May to August. Now the bill goes to the Senate.

West Virginia Ballot Access Bill Advances — No Comments

  1. This morning I called my state senator (Herb Snyder – who happens to be on the Sen Judiciary Committee) and was informed by his secretary that this bill IS ON THE AGENDA THIS AFTERNOON. I’ll keep calling other senators on the committee. Let’s keep the pressure on ’em to move this bill to a vote!

  2. The bill WAS introduced in the Senate Judiciary Commitee yesterday afternoon “for immediate consideration” and was read the first time. An amendment to it was proposed (I’m still trying to find out what that says/does). It is now on today’s agenda for a second reading: http://www.legis.state.wv.us/bulletin_board/2009/RS/senate/s_calendar/files/calendar.cfm?sdc=sdc4-08.htm&chamber=H&btype=B&input=2981&year=2009
… expect it to be on the agenda again tomorrow for third reading, and then hopefully released to floor for a full vote on Friday and governor signing it on Saturday.

  3. “Galvester”,
Yes, we did recieve a donation from someone in Maine. You? Thank you, but it is not really needed for this ballot access effort, since the CPWV incurred no real expenses. However, if you would like, we could apply it towards our complaint with the Secretary of State over improper posting of write-in candidate names at last election. We are pursuing a public hearing on this matter (over fifty individual complaintants), and possible litigation. Please reply directly to constitutionpartywv@gmail.com Thank you.

  4. Recieved UNANIMOUS CONSENT yesterday !!!
