The Oregon Senate Rules Committee holds a public hearing on HB 2414 on Tuesday, May 12. This is the bill to legalize fusion. If it becomes law, a candidate who has been nominated by two parties would have both parties’ names adjacent to his or her name on the November ballot. The bill passed the House back on March 31 by 53-7.
This bill is not really fusion. It is cross-nomination. It does not provide a separate line on the ballot for each party which has nominated a candidate. Each candidate still gets only one line but can have multiple party labels.
When the results are displayed will they be able to separate the vote results or are they mingled?
