  1. Whatever happened to ComingBacktoLP, who would always
write in with phrases like “fascist” and “NPV is dead”
whenever there was was an editorial endorsing NPV or a report óf a state or legislative body passing it?

  2. ComingBacktoLP is busy working on a plan whereby electoral college votes will be allocated proportionally based on the first letter of voters’ last names within each Congressional District. There’s a legitimate objection to the current system, you know – voters with names beginning with “Q” and “V” and “Z” are largely ignored by the media while “big letter” names beginning with “J” and “M” get all the attention.

It’s a little-known fact that the Founding Fathers were very concerned about this (“Monogram Rights”). However in early September of 1787 “Jemmy” Madison did a quick recount of delegates and noted that none of them actually HAD a name beginning with “Q” and “V” and “Z!” A little discussion ensued, and ultimately E. Gerry of Massachusetts proposed that since the really important matters about voting had already been settled – that no woman or non-property owner or slave was allowed to vote anywhere in the US – they should just adopt the Electoral College and let as bunch of political hacks in the state legislators elect the president. After all, the presidency that they had contrived by that point in the convention was quite weak – pretty much all the Executive could do without Congress’s permission was issue pardons and powder his wig.

Everybody liked the idea. So they approved the Electoral College we now know and love. Then they all went out and got loaded on Madeira at Ben’s place.

And that’s how they forgot to put the Bill of Rights into the Constitution! Oh those rowdy FF’s!

Funkhouser recall group turns in petitions, predicts success

By LYNN HORSLEY The Kansas City Star

Organizers of a drive to recall Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser turned in signatures to the city clerk today and said they had enough to trigger a recall election.

The petitioners said they were turning in roughly 13,000 signatures, on top of the 7,459 signatures they previously had certified. If most of the new batch of signatures are certified as coming from valid registered voters, it would be enough to meet the threshold of 16,950 signatures needed.

Harris Wilder, spokesman for the recall group, predicted victory.
