  1. It is a good showing for a first timer. It was a local election so the 5% deposit rule wasn’t applicable anyway but it still stands as a landmark for smaller parties.

That said, Libertarian parties and individuals (of which there has been a few) have struggled in the UK for decades, mainly because individual politicians from the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats tend to hold libertarian views, and probably a lot down to lack of knowledge of the Libertarian ideology from the public at large.

The Lib Dem’s in particular want to look into cutting down the number of MP’s which if went ahead means that my own County: Wiltshire the largest in England will ultimately drop to virtually no representation. We’ve only just got our 7th seat for Chippenham for the next general election, and would definitely lose more than 1 if those proposals went ahead.

The results of the European elections should be out tomorrow night, in which Conservatives should have an easy win as it did in the locals. They plan to split away from the main Conservative grouping in Brussels and form their own Eurosceptic group.

Fascists are expected to also do well across Europe, and follow on from Netherlands success. They are a mix across Europe of White supremacists, anti-disabled and anti-coloured parties with some holding views like Roma people (travellers/gypsies) should be deported to India, and that minority religions such as Islam and Judaism should be banned from producing or importing Kosher/Halal meat and from building Mosques and Synagogues.

  2. If these lot can only manage to stand one candidate in over 2200 seats up for election on Thursday its hardly a breakthrough.
