The Wyoming Constitution Party has never before been on the ballot, although in the past, the party has qualified its presidential candidate in Wyoming as an independent. The party is currently petitioning to qualify itself for 2010, using volunteer petitioners.
In Big Horn County, so far, 610 signatures have been gathered, which is 11.5% of the number of votes cast for president in that county last year. Big Horn County is one of Wyoming’s smaller counties, and is on the Montana border. Last year its vote for president was: McCain 4,045; Obama 1,108; Nader 41; Baldwin 39; Barr 37. This year, many conservative Republicans in the county are disenchanted with the Republican Party.
Kudos go to the CP’s Western States Director, Frank Fluckiger, who has been so instrumental in our early petitioning success in Wyoming. Frank would, of course, be the first one to say that it is a long way from over and there is much to be done, but it is a very promising beginning nonetheless. Volunteer ballot access petition drives are much easier to talk about than to implement, which makes these early results so encouraging.
I remember in 1968, Governor Wallace placed second ahead of Humphrey in several counties.
In 1968 Wallace outpolled Humphrey in parts of the USA, but not in any county in Wyoming.
My mistake. I read the voting information table wrong. Governor Wallace came close in one county, however that was it.
