There will probably be a special U.S. House election on November 3, to fill the soon-to-be vacant 23rd district seat. The Weekly Standard speculates that if the Republican nominate a liberal Republican, the Conservative Party is likely to nominate Doug Hoffman, who (according to the Standard) could win a 3-way fight. See this article.
Perhaps unlike James Buckley he will not join the Republicans when he gets to Congress and we will have three parties represented.
Yes, he can have his own caucus– in a broom closet or a phone booth.
Sen. Buckley, of course, had both the Republican and Conservative nominations in 1976 and still failed to be re-elected.
His getting elected is unlikely, his getting elected and not caucusing with the Republicans is fantasy.
I beg to differ. The Conservative Party show stand on its own if elected. The Mexican Congress has 7 parties. Japan has 7 parties in Parliament etc. Up until World War II our Congress had many different political parties represented . . . then came the modern Fascist state with the choice of Fascist party #1 or Fascist party #2.
“I beg to differ. The Conservative Party show stand on its own if elected.”
I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. Are you a troll?
Regardless of whatever that meant, this guy is a lifelong Republican. The Conservative Party is his second choice.
“then came the modern Fascist state with the choice of Fascist party #1 or Fascist party #2”
If this were any other site, I could be sure you were a troll after that comment.
I agree with you, my fellow Bolshevik. I don’t think Gary is a troll; he just has certain beliefs about the capabilities of our current voting system to allow for representation from more than two parties under most conditions.
It seems unlikely that the Republicans will nominate a liberal. I do hope the Democrat wins; Hoffman is my second choice because I will love it when the losergreenians, losertarians and losertutionalists wine when he joins the Republican Party, just as the wined about Richard Carroll joining the Greens.
By the way, go to the latest threads on IPR for some important commentary by me.
Didn’t state Rep. Richard Carroll of Arkansas join the Democrats?

according to US-DOJ’s brief filed over Labor Day weekend in USDC-CAMD in one of “Obama elibility” cases (was Keyes now Barnett) v Obama 09-82 since third parties and independents can not realistically win most elections — especially national presidential elections — there is no significant constitutional right to various equal protections (including ensuring the major parties nominate constitutional — natural born citizen — presidential candidates)

I haven’t read anything that says he’s “GOP First. Conservative Party Second”.
The article says he’s the lifelong Republican and he only contacted the Conservatives AFTER he lost the Republican nomination.
Michael @ #10 – the Weekly Standard article describes Hoffman as a “life-long Republican” and discusses his attempt to get the Republican nomination.

I read the article and found out the rest of the story. Did he leave the GOP outright for the Conservative Party?
