On October 5, State Senator Joseph Addabbo, chair of the New York State Senate Elections Committee, said he will introduce a bill to eliminate run-off primaries in New York city. See this story. Because Addabbo is chair, it is very likely this bill will make headway when the State Senate next convenes. It is not now in session.
The first comment on the NY Times piece calls for nonpartisan elections. That was put to a vote in NY City a few years ago and lost by a big margin.
I see that Mark Green– the Harold Stassen of New York– lost again.
Yes, the nonpartisan election issue lost by 70%. But with 2,372,448 independents (blank/no party), I think it is time for a second shot in 2010.
