The New York Times has this lengthy article about Chris Daggett, independent candidate for New Jersey governor. Until this article was published, the New York Times had had little to say about Daggett. Some New York Times articles about the race published in the last few weeks had not even mentioned him.
I doubt Daggett breaks 10%. He only polls so high because pollsters name 3 three candidates when they ask their question on the phone. The result is a lot of shallow support from anti Corzine liberals.
They did a poll where the posters didn’t bring up Daggett’s name and only 3 or 4% of the people volunteered his name.
Then another poll where they gave three choices but instead of Daggett, they named some nobody loser no one had ever heard of. He ended up getting like 8% too.
Typically, the NYT does not mention Daggett’s poll numbers.
