California Initiative to Repeal Nonpartisan Redistricting Commission Starts to Circulate

On February 8, the California Secretary of State issued this press release, announcing that a proposed initiative is now free to start circulating signatures. It would repeal the measure passed by the voters in 2008, to establish a non-partisan citizens redistricting commission.

  1. This initiative sounds like it would be a step backwards for minor parties and independent candidates.

  2. The New Age gerrymander commission does ZERO about the gerrymander math — half the votes in half the gerrymander districts = about 25 percent ANTI-DEMOCRACY minority rule.

Having NO gerrymander commission would give the gerrymander power back to the party hacks.

Lowenstein is one more of the EVIL party hack MONSTERS who have caused the almost certain bankruptcy of the CA and U.S.A. regimes.

All else is arranging the deck chairs on the political Titanic AFTER it is already sunk.

  3. Meanwhile over 20,000 Californians have applied to become members of the initial redistricting commission.

  4. Well, that sounds like about 18,000 votes or so against this initiative right there. . . :] . . .

And now the application deadline has been extended until the 16th — or so says this more recent entry:

    http://www.ballot-access.org/2010/02/10/deadline-to-apply-for-california-redistricting-commission-extended/

Do we know why the deadline was extended? Did some people have trouble getting the application form from their local clerk or something?

  5. The New Age CA gerrymander commission was one more scheme by the Elephant gang to pack more Donkey party hacks into fewer gerrymander district — so that the Elephant gang would have a better chance to elect more Elephant party hacks.
