Freedom Socialist Party Sets National Convention

The Freedom Socialist Party will hold a national convention July 9-12 at Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington.

The Freedom Socialist Party has not run a candidate for any partisan office since 2004, when it had a candidate on the Oregon ballot for state representative in the 45th district. That candidate, Jordana Sardo, polled 8.9%.

  1. Why don’t these half dozen or so political parties just support the Socialist Party? It’s the only way they’ll ever have any success.

  2. When the FSP isn’t running candidates of their own, they do support Socialist Party candidates (along with candidates of other socialist parties, where they are running.) There are only three “big” nationwide socialist parties that run candidates (Socialist Party USA, Socialist Workers Party, and Party for Socialism and Liberation), and on a non-presidential level, they usually don’t have candidates running against each other.

  3. Chris, California has a version of what you want. The Peace and Freedom Party (the only ballot-qualified socialist party in the state) is multi-tendency by design. Members of SP-USA and PSL participate in the party’s affairs to varying degrees (I’m not positive about FSP). When members of these organizations get the P&F nomination for an office, the rest of the party supports them.
