  2. Also, The Liberal Party is running 5 candidates for the House of Commons. The Liberal Party is composed of people who did not go along with the merger with the Social Democrats.

The Liberals are pro-free market and euro-skeptic. Their website is http://www.liberal.org.uk

  3. The Liberals will be lucky to keep their deposit (ie get 5% or more of the vote and you get your £500 deposit back).

  4. The Libertarian Party of the UK has two candidates standing for Commons as well. They also are likely to lose their deposits.

  5. The Respect Party has a sporting chance of electing Salma Yaqoob from the Birmingham Hall Green constituency. The retiring MP from the area favors her and the Labour candidate has suspended his campaign after a series of gaffes. Bookies are calling it for the Lib Dems now, though. Also, it probably won’t happen but George Galloway could win for Respect in the Poplar and Limehouse constituency. Bookies are favoring the Conservatives there.

  6. The U.K. Parliament has 650 seats, one for each 95,000 persons. The U.S. Congress has 435 seats, one for each 710,000 persons. Guess which country is more likely to elect a handful of Greens and Libertarians.

  7. It is also possible that Nigel Farage could win a seat for the UKIP in the Buckingham constituency. The Speaker of the House of Commons is traditionally not opposed by the three main parties so his only opposition is a number of independents and really whacky minor parties plus the UKIP and the BNP (which some might classify as a whacky minor party).

  8. So far its Mixed news for most minors, Independent Kidderminster Hospistal and Health Concern has lost their MP, Plaid Cymru has not made any gains, Scottish National Party doesn’t look like it’ll gain anything either.

Liberal Democrats are struggling to hold seats, and have only kept from losing a few of their numbers by gaining a couple elsewhere.

Only benefit is that the Alliance Party has decapitated the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland. The Alliance Party is aligned to the Liberal Democrats but this is their first ever MP. It is a cross-ideology party compromised of both Republicans and Unionists who favour talk over armed conflict and hatred.

  9. Green Party gets Brighton Pavilion, their first MP at Westminster. The only major minor party left to play for is the RESPECT coalition, Birmingham Hall Green, Poplar and Limehouse and their current seat (but new candidate) in Bethnal Green and Bow.
