Norman Solomon is a well-known journalist who lives in Marin County, California. He helped establish the group Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) and he founded the Institute for Public Accuracy. His commentary about California’s Proposition 14, the top-two measure on the June 8 ballot, is in the June 4 Marin Independent-Journal. It is also posted at CommonDreams.org. Thanks to Roy Ulrich for this news.
So what is the box score — pro/con/do not know — for the various commentators ???
4 days until DOOMSDAY for the party hacks in CA — and the rest of the U.S.A. ??? Stay tuned.
P.R. and App.V. – regardless of Prop. 14 winning or losing.
Thank you for your work Norman. I’m looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks!
So now what can be done? As a well intentioned but underinformed voter, I researched Prop. 14 and was grateful to find Norman Solomon’s informative and well reasoned warning to California voters. But clearly most voters did not do their homework, and the deceptive ballot label — claiming to hive voters more choice when really robbing us of key information that will ultimately take way our choice — carried the measure to victory. Although I only discovered this the night before the election, and I suppose I have no right to criticize anyone for this outcome besides Abel Maldonado and the Big 5 in Sacramento, if the Dems really opposed it, why didn’t they file a lawsuit over the deceptive ballot label? Now that the measure has passed, is it too late for a lawsuit? I should mote that I’m not in favor of frivolous lawsuits, but the damage this proposition has done to democracy in our state is profound. It must be stopped before it can be put to use by those who would commandeer a process that invites well funded winning candidates to take all.
Oops! That should read “give voters more choice” and “I should note that I’m not in favor”.
Oops (take 2)! I should never post before I use my search engine. The lawsuit has already been filed, although there is no news on the status of the suit.
